Calculate Water Removal
See how much water your dehumidifier will actually collect under real conditions.
Estimated Water Removal
Rated vs actual output based on conditions
Understanding Dehumidifier Output
Manufacturers rate dehumidifiers at ideal conditions (80°F, 60% humidity). Real-world output varies based on your actual conditions.
Cold air holds less moisture. At 50°F, a dehumidifier may only achieve 30-40% of its rated capacity. This is why basement dehumidifiers need auto-defrost.
Higher humidity = more water removal. At 80%+ humidity, units often exceed rated capacity initially, then slow as humidity drops.
Tank Size Reference
How often you'll need to empty based on typical tank sizes:
| Tank Size | At 20 pints/day | At 40 pints/day |
|---|---|---|
| 1 gallon (8 pints) | ~10 hours | ~5 hours |
| 1.5 gallons (12 pints) | ~14 hours | ~7 hours |
| 2 gallons (16 pints) | ~19 hours | ~10 hours |
Tip: Use continuous drain with a hose to avoid manual emptying.
These calculations are estimates based on general guidelines. Actual performance may vary based on specific conditions.
