Calculate Water Removal

See how much water your dehumidifier will actually collect under real conditions.

Rated capacity is measured at 80°F and 60% humidity

Understanding Dehumidifier Output

Why actual output differs from rated capacity:

Manufacturers rate dehumidifiers at ideal conditions (80°F, 60% humidity). Real-world output varies based on your actual conditions.

Temperature effect:

Cold air holds less moisture. At 50°F, a dehumidifier may only achieve 30-40% of its rated capacity. This is why basement dehumidifiers need auto-defrost.

Humidity effect:

Higher humidity = more water removal. At 80%+ humidity, units often exceed rated capacity initially, then slow as humidity drops.

Tank Size Reference

How often you'll need to empty based on typical tank sizes:

Tank Size At 20 pints/day At 40 pints/day
1 gallon (8 pints) ~10 hours ~5 hours
1.5 gallons (12 pints) ~14 hours ~7 hours
2 gallons (16 pints) ~19 hours ~10 hours

Tip: Use continuous drain with a hose to avoid manual emptying.

These calculations are estimates based on general guidelines. Actual performance may vary based on specific conditions.
